Walk With Me

Most of my personal healing work has happened while walking.

Walking has been a huge part of my practice and my life journey. In 2020, I embarked on a walk from Denver, Colorado to San Diego, California, a vision-guided trek of nearly 3,000 miles. I share this story in the book WALK by my teacher, collaborator and dear friend Jonathon Stalls (Intrinsic Paths). Along the way I encountered the diverse range of possible human emotion, expression, and experience. From joy to grief, from anger to ecstatic communion… all of this and more was met and moved in and through me on this walk.

Moving through our worlds with unhurried movement, we find: there is space for it all. Our environments—both built and natural environments—reflect to us the full spectrum of the human experience. We can find environments that match our inner states and help those states to express. For instance, the overwhelming volume of cars standing beside a highway can become a container for our stored up rage. Or perhaps the kind shelter of a tree becomes exactly the presence needed to invite us to soften, feel more, and touch our own roots. Sometimes a session might involve selecting a space that would best reflect or draw out our inner states. Other times, simply walking out the front door is the right medicine!

Walking is a highly self-regulating activity and has numerous built-in health benefits: physical, mental, emotional. When we walk, bilateral movement stimulates embodied processes of integration in a way similar to EMDR. Simply moving through our landscapes, inner and outer, brings about profound integration.

I have found that my capacity to witness others is greater when walking than in perhaps any other modality. One of my favorite ways to work one-on-one with you is through Walking Witnessing.

Benefits of Walking Witnessing:

  • Increased self-regulation and integration

  • Moving out of a triggered state and into greater peace and relaxation

  • Increased capacity and resilience

  • Greater attunement to self and the natural world

Virtual options are available for people who are not located in the Front Range region, or who prefer to move synchronously in separate places.

I also wish to name that all forms of mobility are welcome, whether you move on two feet, or in a wheelchair, or in any other way.
